A TURQUOISE FAIENCE AMULET OF DUAMUTEF, THIRD INTERMEDIATE PERIOD-LATE PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve Egypt, 1070-525 BC. Carved in the form of a standing figure of Duamutef, the Son of Horus, in anthropomorphic form with a jackal-headed visage in profile. Overall glazed in a vibrant turquoise. Two suspension holes to the head and feet. Each of the Four Sons was associated with the protection of a particular internal organ of the deceased, and Duamutef’s specific role was the safeguarding of the stomach. In ritual contexts he was often invoked to ensure the integrity and well‑being of the deceased in the afterlife, guarding against harm and facilitating the regeneration of the body and spirit on the journey to eternity.
