AN EGYPTIAN INSCRIBED STEATITE SCARAB, LATE PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve Egypt, 664-332 BC. Naturalistically carved to depict a stout-bodied dung beetle, the convex dorsal surface is subtly ridged to indicate the elytra, with marked clypeus and head, and the legs defined in low relief with ridges representing hair along the sides. Perforated horizontally for suspension. The underside engraved with a symmetrical amuletic composition of hieroglyphic signs, including a central djed-like emblem and protective symbols, within an oval border.
