A LARGE EGYPTIAN ALABASTER COSMETIC BOWL, PREDYNASTIC TO EARLY DYNASTIC PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2012: “No. 601, Large cup. Egypt predynastic period Alabaster (restored) diam. 19.5 cm, HH 1972” Gallery price: EUR 2,800 or approx. EUR 4,000 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. The ledger establishes that this object was located in Europe before the UNESCO 1970 Convention entered into force. Egypt, c. 5500-2650 BC. Finely carved, with deep flaring sides supported on a flat base and rising to an inward-folded rim. The finely polished, semi-translucent, banded calcitic stone of a cream tone with pale veining, dark inclusions, and subtle mottling.
