拍品描述

A HARDWOOD LOW TABLE, CHABUDAI, 19TH CENTURY This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve Japan, Edo period (1615-1868). Of restrained rectangular form, the substantial plank top raised on six short, slightly splayed supports arranged in two trestles, joined by horizontal stretchers and resting on two elongated feet Important Note: For essential information on the Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger and provenance documentation please visit here: www.zacke.at/rubencollection_ledger Dimensions: Size 25 x 40.3 x 88.5 cm Low tables (chabudai) occupy an important role in traditional Japanese domestic interiors, where architecture and furnishings were designed to accommodate a floor-seated lifestyle. Prior to the widespread adoption of chairs and elevated tables, the Japanese home utilized a variety of compact, low tables for dining, writing, display, and ceremonial purposes. These tables, often raised on short, straight legs with simple stretchers, allowed for functional versatility while harmonizing with the tatami-matted floors that were standard in Edo-period residences.
