A CALCIFIED IVORY WHITE JADE ‘DRAGON’ BELT HOOK, WARRING STATES PERIOD China, 475-221 BC. Boldly carved, the curved shaft, of rectangular section, decorated with raised horizontal ridges, terminating in a highly abstract dragon head facing downward. A square projection at the center of the reverse served to secure the hook to the belt. The semi-translucent stone is of a deep green tone with extensive areas of ivory-white calcification.
