A YELOWISH CELADON AND RUSSET JADE ‘BIRD’ PENDANT, HONGSHAN CULTURE China, 4700-2500 BC. Of flattened form, carved with protruding round eyes and prominent chest, the outstretched wings subtly detailed with grooves and ridges simulating feathers. The reverse pierced with an aperture for suspension. The translucent stone of a yellowish celadon color with lighter inclusions, russet highlights, and areas of calcification.
