A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA, c. 1880s This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2005: “No. 267, HH 1993, FH 1978, Thai Rama 5th c. bronze Buddha 19th c.” Gallery price: EUR 1,300 or approx. EUR 2,200 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. Thailand. Cast seated in dhyanasana on a lotus throne, supported on a another base, the figure presents the left hand resting in the lap and the right hand in bhumisparsha mudra. The robe is draped over the left shoulder, and the face bears a benevolent expression with downcast eyes inlaid with mother-of-pearl and black glass, framed by pendulous earlobes. The head is surmounted by tight curls over the ushnisha, covered in gilt, and topped with a flame finial. The lacquer gilt aureole surrounding the figure is rendered in relief, featuring beaded borders and stylized flames.
