A BRONZE FIGURE OF A BUDDHIST DISCIPLE, 19TH CENTURY This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2005: “No. 283, FH 1990, Thai Rama 5th bronze monk 19th c.” Gallery price: EUR 1,150 or approx. EUR 1,900 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. Thailand. Finely cast seated in dhyanasana on a tiered base, the left hand holding an alms bowl while the right hand dips the fingers inside, dressed in loose robes draped over the left shoulder, the face in a meditative expression with downcast eyes and a subtle smile, flanked by elongated earlobes, and surmounted by tight curls. The eyes inlaid in glass. As represented in this sculpture, these are the absence of Buddha's ushnisha (a cranial protuberance).
