AN UNUSUAL AND VERY FINE GILT AND FAMILLE ROSE ‘LANDSCAPE’ GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE, 1750-1850 China. Of flattened spade form supported on a concave foot and rising to a waisted neck with flat mouth, finely decorated in shades of green and blue enamels on a gilt ground, details picked out in iron-red and lavender enamels. The sides featuring a continuous mountain and river landscape with small cottages beside trees and a scholar with attendant. The base with a four-character Qianlong nianzhi mark in iron-red, and possibly of the period. Stopper: Jadeite cabochon in copper fitting with agate finial Dimensions: Height including stopper 62 mm. Diameter neck 18 mm and mouth 8 mm. Literature comparison: Compare a related gilt and enameled ‘three friends of winter’ glass snuff bottle, dated Qianlong mark and period, 4.9 cm tall, in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, reference number 故瓷014080N000000000. Compare a related famille rose painted ‘private life’ glass snuff bottle, attributed to the palace workshops, Beijing, dated 1750-1799, 7.6 cm tall, illustrated in Hugh M.
