Finely cast, the sensitively modeled face conveying a serene and benevolent expression, characterized by heavy-lidded, downcast eyes beneath gently arched brows, a broad nose, and full lips forming a subtle smile, all flanked by elongated, pendulous earlobes. The hair is neatly arranged in tight curls covering the prominent ushnisha, surmounted by a distinctive flaming finial (siraspata), symbolizing the supreme enlightenment and spiritual radiance of the Buddha. (2) The Kingdom of Ayutthaya emerged as one of the dominant powers of mainland Southeast Asia during the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries. Building upon the artistic legacy established under Sukhothai rule, this Theravada Buddhist polity fostered the creation of Buddha images distinguished by a refined and recognizable sculptural idiom. Characteristic features include a gracefully curvilinear facial contour, a lowered hairline flowing into a sinuous brow, and elongated ears that flare subtly at both the upper and lower extremities. The eyes, extending harmoniously across the breadth of the face, are rendered three-quarters closed, imparting an expression of serene contemplation that conveys both inward spiritual focus and a poised engagement with the surrounding world.
