A LARGE BRONZE BUDDHA’S ENLIGHTENMENT FLAME, SIRASPATA, SUKHOTHAI PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2012: “No. 581, FH 1986, Thai Sukhothai bronze flame 15th c., 26.5 cm h.” Gallery price: EUR 1,280 or approx. EUR 1,800 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. Thailand, 15th century. Boldly cast, of four-sided pyramidal form, with a rounded bottom emerging from a stylized lotus blossom and a conical shaft. Two opposing faces are articulated as five overlapping lotus petals, while the remaining faces display a swirling central motif of ascending flames extending across the surface. Introduced through Sri Lankan Buddhist influence, this luminous crest became a defining feature of Thai bronze sculpture, appearing in distinctive variations throughout the Sukhothai, Lan Na, and Ayutthaya traditions.
