A BRONZE HEAD OF BUDDHA, SUKHOTHAI KINGDOM, 15TH CENTURY This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve Thailand. The Buddha’s elongated oval face sensitively modeled with downcast eyes, elegantly arched brows, aquiline nose, and bow-shaped lips, flanked by pendulous earlobes. The hair arranged in rows of curls over the ushnisha culminating in a flame finial. (2) The spiritual transcendence of Buddha Shakyamuni has been well captured by the artist. In deep meditation with his eyes half-closed, the Buddha shows great serenity. The tip of the nose slightly pointed downwards, and up-curling extended earlobes place this head firmly in the Sukhothai tradition.
