A RARE AGATE ‘THREE-LEGGED TOAD’ FIGURAL SNUFF BOTTLE, QIANLONG China, 1735-1796. The bottle is well carved in the shape of a three-legged toad with raised 'bumps' on its back crouched over its three legs. The dark gray areas of the grayish-white stone highlight the top of the head, back and rear leg. Stopper: Apple-green jadeite Dimensions: Height including stopper 57 mm. Diameter mouth 7 mm. Literature comparison: Compare a related white and russet three-legged toad snuff bottle, dated to the late 17th century, 7.6 cm high, in the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College, object number 1964.15.33.
