AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE SCULPTOR'S MODEL RELIEF FRAGMENT DEPICTING A PHARAOH, PTOLEMAIC PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2012: “No. 724, Egyptian, Ptholemaic limestone trial piece of a Pharaoh, ca. height 19 cm x ca. width 21 cm, Prov.: Belgian Coll. ca. 1960s, AB” Gallery price: EUR 9,650 or approx. EUR 14,000 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. The ledger establishes that this object was located in Europe before the UNESCO 1970 Convention entered into force. Egypt, 332-30 BC. Finely carved in shallow relief with a pharaoh standing in profile facing right, wearing a nemes headdress with uraeus, the facial features neatly detailed with an almond-shaped eye, straight nose, and full lips. The slender torso with broad shoulders, the arms rendered in long elegant lines, one lowered along the side, the other extending forward.
