AN EGYPTIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF A FALCON-HEADED HORUS, THIRD INTERMEDIATE-LATE PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2012: “No. 748, Horus falcon without arms Egypt Late period Bronze, H.: 10.5 cm, BX 2010” Gallery price: EUR 12,000 or approx. EUR 17,000 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. Egypt, 1069-332 BC. Striding forward on an integral base with the left foot advanced, the falcon-headed deity wearing a belted kilt and striated tripartite wig, the kilt and wig embellished with inlays in a secondary material. The face with a small beak and articulated eyes. (2) One of the oldest and most important deities of ancient Egypt, Horus was worshipped in several distinct forms: as a falcon he was a sky god closely associated with divine kingship and solar power, while as Horus the Child he was venerated as the son of Isis and Osiris. As a protector of kingship and an embodiment of royal authority, Horus was prominently represented in temple sculpture, most famously at the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus at Edfu in Upper Egypt.
