AN EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME FIGURE OF PTAH-SOKAR-OSIRIS, LATE PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2005: “No. 72, LC, Egypt. Ptah Sokar Osiris, complete, Late P.” Gallery price: EUR 14,000 or approx. EUR 23,500 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. Egypt, 664-332 BC. Depicted mummiform, with a blue tripartite wig bound in a diadem, surmounted by a separately carved crown of ram horns, sun disk and plumes. The face with eye outlines, pupils, cosmetic lines and conforming brows in black, wearing a blue false beard and a broad collar composed of strands of red and black, the body red and detailed with a cross-hatched design in blue. The front and back each inscribed with a column of hieroglyphs. (2) This mummiform figure represents the funerary deity Ptah-Sokar-Osiris, who embodied the concept of rebirth. On the head is a shuty crown: two ostrich plumes; a sun disk; and ram's horns. This type of funerary statuette was an important element of the burial assemblage in the Late and Ptolemaic Periods.
