Three similar Chinese hongmu horseshoe back armchairs Late Qing dynasty/Republic period - 20th century The top of the crest rails carved in shallow relief with a taotie, the back splats one with five bats, 104cm high x 69cm wide x 47cm deep, another with peaches, 103.5cm high x 68cm wide x 46cm deep, the third plain, 105cm high x 68cm wide x 46cm deep, the aprons with scrolling motifs (30). Condition Report: The one with peaches and the one with plain back splat in reasonably good condition considering their age, with some surface discolouration, age cracks and some shrinkage to the seat. The five bats with extensive wear and damage including fading, discolouration and staining, several age cracks and areas of shrinkage and several chips and losses including loss of one of the arm supports.
