A Japanese painting and puppet head by Ōe Minosuke IV (1907-1997) 20th century Painted with a head of a puppet, signed Minosuke, framed and glazed, 15 x 21.2cm, accompanied by a photograph of the painter's home; a head of a puppet on square stand, the head 4.7cm high; together with a puppet in domed glass display case, puppet 19.3cm high, glass dome 31.5cm high (3). Ōe Minosuke IV, born Ōe Takeo, was the last of four generations of the puppet making family from the Tokushima Prefecture. He started as a trainee puppet maker in Osaka in the 1930s, and have received numerous cultural awards. According to the British Museum, as of 2009, the majority of puppet heads in use for Bunraku had been made by him.
