λ DONALD GILBERT (1900-1961), A BRONZE FIGURE OF A GIRL ON A PORTLAND STONE BASE DATED 1959 Signed and dated 'Gilbert 1959' to the base the bronze 109cm high, 172cm high overall Hubert Donald Macgeoch Gilbert (1900-1961) was an English sculptor and modeller, and the son of Walter Gilbert - director of the Bromsgrove Guild. Donald attended the Birmingham School of Art, the Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, the latter from 1922 to 1927, where he was awarded silver and bronze medals. He further exhibited at Royal Society of Artists Birmingham, Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, Walker Gallery Liverpool, Royal Academy (between 1925-1960), Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy.
