Y A SOLOMON ISLANDS CANOE PROW, NGUZUNGUZU NEW GEORGIA, SOLOMON ISLANDS, MELANESIA Carved wood, black and mother-of-pearl, the figure is depicted clasping a turtle in both hands beneath the chin, the face symmetrically adorned with lines of nautilus mother-of-pearl inlay simulating war paint, the largely distended ears and the eyes bear the same, the nose is elongated, the mouth half-open 23cm high The estate of a deceased gentleman and thence by family descent.
