LUCA MADRASSI (1848-1919), A LARGE WHITE MARBLE GROUP 'THE BIRTH OF VENUS' LATE 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY Signed L Madrassi Paris 89cm high, 39cm wide Luca Madrassi training began in Rome and culminated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Pierre-Jules Cavelier. His style was influenced by his time in the workshops of Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse and Antoine Bourdelle. Specialising in allegorical busts and statuettes, Madrassi was a regular exhibitor at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Français from 1879, where he garnered multiple honourable mentions and a third-class medal in 1896. After obtaining French nationality in 1890, he established himself as one of the more prominent, if traditional, sculptors in France by the turn of the century. Condition Report Disclaimer
