A FLEMISH BIBLICAL TAPESTRY DEPICTING ESTHER BEFORE KING AHASUERUS EARLY 17TH CENTURY approximately 315 x 344cm This tapestry depicts the coronation of Esther by King Ahasuerus of Persia. The scene depicted is taken from an episode in the book of Esther in the Old Testament. Esther was a young Jewish woman, a cousin of Mordecai. Ahasuerus, who had divorced his wife, fell under the spell of Esther, the most beautiful woman in his kingdom, whom he married and crowned Queen of Persia. Condition Report Disclaimer
