拍品描述

1st century B.C.-1st century A.D. Shallow bowl with moulded pillar detailing on the outer face. Cf. Lightfoot, C.S., The Cesnola Collection of Cypriot Art: Ancient Glass, New York, 2017, pp.49-51, nos.22-25, for similar ribbed bowls. 142 grams, 12.6 cm wide (5 in.). [No Reserve] [A video of this lot is available to view on TimeLine Auctions Website] Acquired from Millennium Antiquities, Lancashire, UK, in 2001. From the collection of a Bedfordshire, UK, lady. Accompanied by an original Millennium Antiquities certificate of authenticity dated 13 October 2001. Ribbed bowls were typical cast tableware belonging to the early Imperial period, and parallels have been found throughout the Roman provinces and beyond. In Cyprus, as elsewhere in the eastern half of the Empire, bowls with short, close-set ribs concentrated around the middle of the body constitute a large group. TimeLine Auctions follows a rigorous vetting process to ensure the authenticity and legality of all items, reinforcing our commitment to integrity and responsible trading. Each antiquity, antique, and coin lot undergoes thorough examination by a vetting committee of at least ten external specialists, professional trade association members, scientists, and archaeologists.
