Ismail Gulgee, (Pakistani 1926-2007), Untitled; Oil on canvas, 31 x 23.1cm. Provenance: Private UK Collection acquired from the Collection of Zarmeen Gulgee, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Note: Born in Peshawar, Gulgee commenced his education at Lawrence College, subsequently pursuing higher studies at Aligarh University, Columbia University, and Harvard University. His artistic career began with portraiture; however, he later transitioned to abstract expression, with a particular emphasis on themes derived from Islamic calligraphy. His work garnered international recognition, and he was commissioned to produce portraits of several prominent global leaders, including U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush, the Shah of Iran, King Hussein of Jordan, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, as well as Pakistani statesmen such as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and General Ayub Khan.
