A diamond- and emerald-set Naya Chand Nyam pendant, India, circa 1900-1920 Made of five components joined to the reverse and made to be worn separately, designed as a traditional naya chand (crescent moon) - hilal (flower) pendant with three diamond-set roundels at the top and sides, one surmounted by a bulbous ruby bead and an emerald drop below, the centre of the niyam flower section with five radiating lines of narrow baguette rubies, the faceted diamonds covering the rest of the pendant's surface set in traditional Gujarati pachchikam (claw like silver mounts), the reverse with a parcel gilt sheet incised with dense vegetal meanderings, interlocking foliage and floral blossoms, in padded presentation box, Pendant 9.8 x 7cm. at widest point; 54 grams Provenance: Private collection of Derek Content
