A seated portrait of a ruler : probably Mahadji Scindia, Possibly Jaipur, Rajasthan, North India, 19th century, Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper laid on card, facing left, reclining on a bolster, on a terrace, his near him, a right hand resting on his katar, a small spittoon near him, a flower bed in the foreground, within green and yellow borders double ruled in white, wider red margins, identification inscription in black devanagari script above, the reverse with unidentified collection stamp, numbered 265 and dulled blue ink, numbered 33 in black ink below, numerals in blue and red ink to lower left corner, attribution in blue ink reading Jaipur 1800 to lower right corner, remnants of mounting tape to edges, 33.2 x 20.8cm. Provenance: Property from the private collection of John Acton (1932-2017) acquired in India in the 1960s
