A detached album folio : a portrait of Karim Khan Zand, Qajar Iran or earlier, first half 19th century, Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, on a dais, knelling against a bolster and smoking a huqqa, a khanjar tucked in his sash, a cat near him and a large meal spread in front of them, laid on card within light pink borders illuminated with a floral gold tendril, the wide borders blue borders with elegant flowers, sprigs bearing blooms and sprays inhabited by birds, the reverse with an inscription in pencil identifying the sitter, foliated no1 in pencil, an illegible inscription perhaps Guernsey in pencil to upper left corner, remnants of mounting tape to upper reverse and of glue to lower reverse, painting 24.5 x 17.4cm. ; folio 38.5 x 27cm.
