A calligraphic panel by 'Ali Reza 'Abbasi, Persia, last quarter 16th century Persian manuscript on gold paper, with 5ll. of large black nasta'liq within cloud bands, on a gold ground with blue, pink and orange flowers, modern marbled border, pasted down on modern card, 24.2 x 18cm. (panel) Provenance: Property from a private UK collection 'Ali Reza 'Abbasi is recorded as a calligrapher at the court of Shah 'Abbas and is one of the most famous calligraphers of the Safavid period. He was responsible for the inscriptions on famous monuments including the Shrine of Imam Rida in Mashhad and the Sheikh Lutfullah Mosque in Isfahan.
