A large and impressive Satsuma earthenware vase Meiji period the tall tapering body decorated in various coloured enamels and gilt with a panel of song birds amongst bamboo and flowering plants on one side, and with ducks in flight behind blossoming magnolia branches on the reverse, all below raised gilt dragons and flowerheads reserved on black and brocaded grounds around the shoulders, the tall waisted neck with flared pleated mouth similarly decorated with raised gilt motifs on brocaded grounds interspersed with black and gilt panels 64.5cm high
