One volume of a two-volume set of the Qur’an (Juz’ 1-15), Harar, Ethiopia, North East Africa, circa 1850, Arabic manuscript on buff paper, 226ff., 1 fl., 12ll. of black Eastern Sudanese script to the page, undated waqf of one ‘Ali al-Din endowing the manuscript to his family on front fly, the opening bi-folio's text, al-Fatiha v.1 to al-Isra v.5, within pale yellow and ochre borders ruled in black decorated with swaying leaves and simplified interlocking tendrils bearing quatrefoils, surah heading in red, bismillah openings in plain rectangular cartouches, verses marked with three red dots, marginal ochre bordered plain roundel juz' marker, bound in dark brown leather bindings stamped with central mandorla, each corners with spandrels, all filled with strapworks, front board's inside decorated with margins recalling the opening bifolio's text panel, back board inside decorated with large rosette, flyleaves with exercises, one line rubbed, reference number in pencil to last fly leaf, folio 22 x 16.5cm.
