A CHINESE DOUCAI 'DEER' DISH, KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722) the rounded sides rising from a short tapering foot to a slightly everted rim, painted to the interior with a medallion enclosing a deer and bats in a rocky fenced garden, encircled in the well by flowers issuing from rockwork and a monkey perched in a tree holding a peach, the reverse with five ruyi sprays and the base inscribed with an apocryphal Xuande mark in underglaze-blue, 15.8cm diameter
