A Roman banded agate intaglio of a charioteer and biga circa 1st - 2nd century AD Agate, the cabochon oval banded 'eye' agate gem is engraved with a racing two horse chariot known as a biga, the charioteer at the back holding the reins and a whip, width of intaglio: 11 mm Provenance: European private collection, previously mounted in the late 19th to early 20th century from the old photos of it in its prior ring.
