This striking bronze ornament is meticulously decorated with interwoven gold and silver inlay, fashioned as a formidable taotie beast mask with dramatically curled, flared aurals. Bulbous inset eyes dominate the facial layout, while elaborate scrollwork patterns trace across brows, cheek contours and horn-shaped extensions. A miniature crouching beast perches atop the forehead, and a protruding tubular shank below was crafted for mounting purposes. Measuring 17.5 cm in length and 14 cm in width with a weight of 1050 g, the piece bears nuanced aged patina that accentuates the shimmering contrasting metallic inlays. Exceptionally refined engraving and symmetrical composition render it an impressive specimen of ancient Chinese decorative bronze craftsmanship.
