MING FAHUA PORCELAIN JAR

Dimensions: Length: 31.3 cm, Width: 31.3 cm, Height: 35.7 cm Chinese Ming Dynasty Fahua Porcelain Jar. Potted with a large cylinder vessel, having thick and tall potted body and sturdily, slight ovoid belly enlarge on mid belly gently tapered on short neck, flaring round mouth rim, raised on short round foot base. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in black base color which contrast against Fahua design color, depicted of flowers blooms interspersed foliage scrolling interlocking tendril and ruyi petals. The Fahua style of decoration appears to have first been developed on pottery or stoneware made in during the Yuan dynasty, during Ming dynasty, Xuande reign (1426-35) to be popular during Ming. The Characteristic Fahua palette combines a selection of low fired over glazes. Turquoise, ink blue, amber yellow, aubergine, purple, emerald green and white alkaline glazes. The motifs are usually outlined by raised trails of white slip. On Fahua-decorated ceramics thin, raised slip lines are used to outline areas of the decoration to inhibit enamels of different colors from flowing into each other. In general Ming pieces tend to be large. Vases, wine jars, garden seats. During the Qing this technique was applied to smaller pieces.The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
