Dimensions: H. 29.5 cm. L. 23 cm. Weight 3692 grams. This stout globular jar features a short cylindrical neck and a tapered stable base, segmented by neatly drawn cobalt blue decorative bands. The main body is painted with a vivid storytelling scene: a robed scholar rides a horse accompanied by an attendant bearing gifts, set amid pine trees, bare branches, rockery and garden railings. Additional panels on the shoulder and foot display scrolling foliage and mythical beasts amid swirling waves. Rendered with fluid, detailed brushwork on creamy white glaze, it is a classic narrative blue-and-white vessel highly sought by antique porcelain collectors.
