PROVENANCE: The private collection of Earl Sorensen, based in Atlanta, Georgia, represents decades of dedicated collecting in the fields of Buddhist art and Chinese jade. An international businessman who frequently traveled throughout Asia during the 1960s, Sorensen developed a deep appreciation for Eastern art and culture through his extensive business activities.During a business trip to western China, he was presented with a Buddha statue by a local monk. This meaningful gift sparked a lifelong passion for Buddhist artifacts, Chinese jades, and other works reflecting the rich artistic and spiritual traditions of Asia. Dimensions: 21cm L x 20.5cm W x 11.7cm H Pair of Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue and White Porcelain Flowerpot. Potted in a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward the flaring flori mouth rim, raised on a round slight concave footing. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base colour which contrast against blue colour, depicted of abundant lotus flowers blooms interspersed foliage and scrolling interlocking tendril. Lotus is one of the most significant flowers in the Chinese culture. It symbolizes the holy seat of Buddha. Because the flower rises from the mud and blooms in exquisite beauty it symbolizes perfection and purity of both the heart and mind.
