Measuring 6.3 cm tall and 5.6 cm wide, this finely carved mask is fashioned from pale celadon Hetian jade mottled with natural creamy earthy patination across its lower edges and flat rectangular plinth. Stylised raised relief sculpting defines prominent rounded eyes, a sharply tapered nasal ridge and abstract patterned facial motifs. Elegant curled perforated flanges extend from both sides of the mask for mounting or threading, while spiral incised engravings adorn the forehead. Smoothly polished jade surfaces contrast against textured aged encrustations. Bearing archaic ritual aesthetic hallmarks, this striking jade mask forms a noteworthy addition to curated collections of early Chinese ceremonial hardstone artefacts.
