PROVENANCE: The private collection of Earl Sorensen, based in Atlanta, Georgia, represents decades of dedicated collecting in the fields of Buddhist art and Chinese jade. An international businessman who frequently traveled throughout Asia during the 1960s, Sorensen developed a deep appreciation for Eastern art and culture through his extensive business activities.During a business trip to western China, he was presented with a Buddha statue by a local monk. This meaningful gift sparked a lifelong passion for Buddhist artifacts, Chinese jades, and other works reflecting the rich artistic and spiritual traditions of Asia. Over the following decades, he carefully assembled a distinguished collection, acquiring pieces that reflected both aesthetic beauty and historical significance.As he prepares for retirement and relocation to Florida, Mr. Sorensen has chosen to share his cherished collection with the next generation of collectors.The Earl Sorensen Collection is offered in this auction as Lots 267?271 and Lots 401?434. Dimensions: 26cm L x 26cm W x 10.5cm H Chinese Ming Dynasty XuanDe Blue and White Pomegranate Porcelain Bowl. Potted in a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward the flaring mouth rim, raised on a round slight concave footing. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base colour which contrast against blue colour, depicted of abundant ripe pomegranate fruit tree with fresh green foliage. Pomegranate is known as the fruit of happiness for its red colour and is a symbol of plentiful offspring for its many seeds. Because the pomegranate is full of juicy seeds, it symbolizes fertility in feng shui, and it is used as a feng shui fertility cure. Pomegranate also symbolizes happiness in the family, as well as good luck for one's descendants. The Daoist attribute to it the same power as the peach of immortality.The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within blue rings lines. Made in The Years XuanDe Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
