Dimensions: in (cm) Height: 7.5 Diameter: 15 Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Period Douqing iron Red Mythical Beast Motif Bowls. Potted with a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward straight mouth rim, raised on a small round with slight concave. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the iron red fine color, depicted of many flying phoenix bird medallions. The phoenix is such an important bird in Chinese symbolism that we have a separate section dedicated to it. In China it was a god of the winds. The vermillion red phoenix represents the most important of directions - south. In symbolism the dragon and phoenix together represent a married couple. The phoenix alone is a symbol of joy and peace, it heralds the coming of auspicious days just like the Qilin. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Mark on base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Qianlong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
