Wei Tao-Ming (Wei Daoming), (October 28, 1899 - May 18, 1978) was a prominent Chinese diplomat, statesman, and senior official of the Republic of China. Born in Jiangxi Province, he studied law in the United States and became active in the Nationalist government under Chiang Kai-shek. During the Second World War, Wei served as the Republic of China's Ambassador to the United States from 1942 to 1946, playing an important role in strengthening Sino-American relations during the Allied war effort. He later held several key government positions, including Governor of Taiwan Province (1947-1949), Ambassador to Japan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China from 1966 to 1971. Wei remained an influential figure in Chinese diplomacy throughout the mid-twentieth century and was closely involved in the Republic of China's international affairs during a period of major political transition in East Asia. ARTIST BIO: Chiang Ching-kuo (1910-1988), the eldest son of Chiang Kai-shek, was a prominent statesman and political leader who served as President of the Republic of China from 1978 until his death in 1988. Born in Zhejiang province, he spent his early years in China and later studied in the Soviet Union before returning to serve in various governmental and military positions.Throughout his political career, Chiang Ching-kuo held numerous important posts, including positions in national security, economic administration, and party leadership. During his presidency, Taiwan experienced significant economic growth, industrial modernization, and expanding international trade. He also initiated a series of political reforms that contributed to the gradual democratization of Taiwan, including the lifting of martial law in 1987.In addition to his public service, Chiang Ching-kuo cultivated the traditional arts, particularly calligraphy. His inscriptions are generally characterized by disciplined brushwork, balanced composition, and an unpretentious elegance that reflects both his personal restraint and his emphasis on moral cultivation.Calligraphic works by Chiang Ching-kuo frequently contain expressions of sincerity, diligence, integrity, and public service.
