Wei Tao-Ming (Wei Daoming), (October 28, 1899 - May 18, 1978) was a prominent Chinese diplomat, statesman, and senior official of the Republic of China. Born in Jiangxi Province, he studied law in the United States and became active in the Nationalist government under Chiang Kai-shek. During the Second World War, Wei served as the Republic of China's Ambassador to the United States from 1942 to 1946, playing an important role in strengthening Sino-American relations during the Allied war effort. He later held several key government positions, including Governor of Taiwan Province (1947-1949), Ambassador to Japan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China from 1966 to 1971. Wei remained an influential figure in Chinese diplomacy throughout the mid-twentieth century and was closely involved in the Republic of China's international affairs during a period of major political transition in East Asia. ARTIST BIO: Huang Junbi (1898-1991) was one of the most important Chinese landscape painters of the twentieth century and a leading master of the Lingnan School. Born in Nanhai, Guangdong province, he received traditional training in painting and calligraphy from an early age and later became an influential educator, scholar, and artist whose career spanned both mainland China and Taiwan.Deeply rooted in the traditions of classical landscape painting, Huang studied the works of the Song and Yuan masters while developing a highly personal approach distinguished by refined brushwork, atmospheric ink washes, and meticulous observation of nature. Extensive travels throughout China enabled him to study celebrated mountains, rivers, and waterfalls firsthand, subjects that became central to his artistic vocabulary.Huang is particularly renowned for his monumental landscapes featuring towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, drifting clouds, and expansive vistas. His paintings combine careful structural composition with expressive ink techniques, creating works that convey both the grandeur of nature and the spiritual ideals of the literati tradition. His celebrated depictions of waterfalls, rendered through delicate washes and flowing brushwork, became one of his distinctive artistic signatures.In addition to his artistic achievements, Huang Junbi was an important educator.
