Carved from smooth warm beige Shoushan soapstone, this Guanyin figure assumes a relaxed informal seated pose, holding a ruyi sceptre in one hand beside a sutra box. The layered robes feature fine gilded trim dotted with tiny colourful stone inlays, while soft fluid folds highlight masterful stone carving. Her face bears serene, gentle features with calm downcast eyes. It is presented on an elaborately hollowed hardwood stand carved with pine and rocky landscape motifs. The stone bears a soft natural patina, making it a fine sacred decorative sculpture for oriental art collectors.
