An international businessman who frequently traveled throughout Asia during the 1960s, Sorensen developed a deep appreciation for Eastern art and culture through his extensive business activities.During a business trip to western China, he was presented with a Buddha statue by a local monk. This elongated ceremonial jade ge dagger-axe is carved from pale celadon jade blanketed with thick mottled white calcified patina mixed with faint reddish earthy stains. Serrated flanges line both long edges, while its flat surface is densely incised with orderly zoomorphic scroll and mask motifs in neat horizontal registers. A small suspension perforation is neatly drilled at the tapered upper tip for mounting or stringing. All margins carry soft worn contours from prolonged ancient grinding. Devoid of functional sharp edges, it serves as a symbolic ritual jade implement showcasing precise, uniform shallow line carving and solemn classical jade aesthetics.
