PROVENANCE: The private collection of Earl Sorensen, based in Atlanta, Georgia, represents decades of dedicated collecting in the fields of Buddhist art and Chinese jade. An international businessman who frequently traveled throughout Asia during the 1960s, Sorensen developed a deep appreciation for Eastern art and culture through his extensive business activities.During a business trip to western China, he was presented with a Buddha statue by a local monk. This meaningful gift sparked a lifelong passion for Buddhist artifacts, Chinese jades, and other works reflecting the rich artistic and spiritual traditions of Asia. Over the following decades, he carefully assembled a distinguished collection, acquiring pieces that reflected both aesthetic beauty and historical significance. As he prepares for retirement and relocation to Florida, Mr. Sorensen has chosen to share his cherished collection with the next generation of collectors. The Earl Sorensen Collection is offered in this auction as Lots 267?271 and Lots 401?434. L. 4.7 cm. W. 1.77 cm. T. 0.93 cm. Weight 12 grams. This miniature standing human figure is carved from smooth creamy white nephrite marked with natural russet mineral staining across its crossed robe collar and flared base. Simplified incised lines define soft facial features and layered wrap-front traditional robes, with subtle radiating grooves detailing garment folds on the torso. The figure tapers gently from rounded upper body to a stable flared pedestal base, all surfaces finely polished to a mild glossy finish with softly rounded edges. Compact and delicate in proportion, it serves as a wearable jade totem, blending restrained stylized sculpting with subtle natural stone patination typical of classical jade human ornaments.
