HUANG ZHOU (1925-1997): ‘GIRL FEEDING CHICKENS,’ 20TH CENTURY Print on paper. Mounted as a hanging scroll on a silk brocade frame with a wood handle. Depicting a young girl leaning against a grapevine as she watches a brood of chicks pecking at feed under the watchful glance of a rooster and hen. Inscriptions: To the bottom-left, signed and seal by the artist. Dimensions: Image size 76 x 44 cm, Size incl. mounting 172 x 56 cmo Huang Zhou (1925-1997) was born in Hebei Province, China. He was a representative figure of the Chang’An School of Paintings. Huang is most adept at painting figures and animals of Xinjiang Province. After his schooling, he ventured deep into the border areas of China to paint the ethnic minorities there. His animal paintings look extremely lively, especially donkeys and camels. His paintings were often used as a national gift by Chinese leaders for other countries in the world.
