A BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN ‘EIGHT DAOIST IMMORTALS’ BOWL, LATE QING DYNASTY China, late 19th century. Skillfully potted, with deep, gently rounded sides supported on a short foot and rising to a slightly everted rim. The interior is decorated in cobalt blue under a clear transparent glaze, with a central medallion enclosing Shoulao holding his staff of authority beside a long-horned deer beneath swirling waves, all framed by a double-line border, repeated around the rim. The exterior further embellished in similar pigments with the Eight Daoist Immortals, each shown standing on different animals or objects associated with their respective attributes and virtues. The underside bearing an apocryphal six-character underglaze-blue seal mark reading Da Qing Daoguang nianzhi [made during the reign of Daoguang of the Great Qing dynasty].
