† A BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN ‘COASTAL LANDSCAPE SCENE’ SERVING DISH, QING DYNASTY, POSSIBLY JIAQING PERIOD China, first half of the 19th century. Oval in form with a lobed rim, with shallow, gently rounded sides resting on a flat base. The interior finely painted in deep cobalt blue tones under a clear transparent glaze, depicting a coastal landscape with small buildings and pavilions set along the shoreline, and tall pine trees and other vegetation rising nearby. The scene is framed by a series of decorative diaper and floral lozenge-patterned bands. The exterior covered in a transparent glaze, except for the base, which is left unglazed to reveal the buff-colored porcelain body beneath.
