A LARGE LONGQUAN CELADON-GLAZED STONEWARE ‘BA GUA’ TRIPOD CENSER, MING DYNASTY China, 15th century. Heavily potted, with shallow, rounded sides supported on three paw-shaped feet and rising to a gently incurved rim. The exterior carved with the auspicious Eight Trigrams (Ba Gua) motif, and encircled below the rim by a band of small flowerheads, while entirely covered in a finely crackled, pale celadon glaze, leaving only a slightly irregular circular area to the interior and the underside unglazed, revealing the warm earthen tone of the ceramic body beneath.
