A POLYCHROME-ENAMELED PORCELAIN ‘BOYS AT PLAY’ SNUFF BOTTLE, REPUBLIC PERIOD China, 1912-1949. Of flattened globular form, supported on a splayed, reticulated foot, with high rounded shoulders surmounted by a short cylindrical neck and a narrow mouth. The exterior finely painted in vivid enamels over a clear transparent glaze, depicting on one side a pair of playful youths richly attired in voluminous robes, holding variously shaped hanging lanterns, while on the other two additional youthful figures observe a flying bird with curiosity. The shoulders of the vessel modeled with a pair of marine creatures in high relief, and the neck decorated with a subtle encircling band of dotted motifs in overglaze blue, fitted with a gilt collar.
