A SILVERED METAL ‘MYTHICAL BEAST’ SNUFF BOTTLE China, Republic period (1912-1949) or later. The body in the form of a horned mythical beast, raised on a flared circular foot and with a short cylindrical neck. The exterior worked in high relief with textured scales, a curling mane, and an expressive face with pronounced fangs. The creature grasping a large oval cabochon, further embellished with various colored hardstone and glass inlays and fitted with a chain.
